Being a plus size woman most of my adult life, finding fashion forward and figure-hugging clothes which truly fitted and celebrated my body shape (5ft`9 curvy UK size 16/18) was a constant challenge.  If you are a plus size woman and reading this, I believe you have probably experienced the same thing.

I have always loved fashion: I created my first mini-skirt at age 14, and always customised my clothes to be that little bit different – I spent many years hand-sewing alterations to style my wardrobe, such as adding a hoodie to my denim jacket!

Despite the obvious affinity for fashion, I followed a scientific career path until studying art and business with Sotheby’s during a sabbatical in 2010. 

Always a Challenge as a Plus Size Woman

Whatever the occasion I still loved to dress to impress, but as a plus size woman I was always compromising or making alterations to get the fit and look I wanted. Like adding 10cm onto sleeves because, at 5‘9 with long arms, most sleeves were too short for my frame! I also felt frustrated that fashion forward trends weren’t always available in my size or weren’t showing up in plus size collections. I identify as a strong, independent woman and I want my wardrobe to reflect that.

So, I did something about it

So, frustrated by the lack of choice, I decided to do something about it.  In March 2021, I designed my first limited collection which was a mix of upcycled, upsized and brand-new designs.

What happened next proved something I had always suspected – plus size women are being under-served and under-supported by the fashion industry. There was such a tremendous positive response to my first collection I knew I had to share it more widely, so I launched my exclusively plus size designs to the public.

Because my designs are for strong, independent, beautiful women (who happen to be fashionable as well as plus size), all my dresses are named after strong, independent, beautiful women from history and legend.
